The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria provides sheltering services under contract. It serves 153,000 people. In 2020, it reported a 93% placement rate for dogs, 94% for cats, but only 87% for rabbits and other animals. Virginia statistics for all reporting agencies are available here.
Appomattox County
The Lynchburg Humane Society runs the Appomattox County shelter under contract. It serves 15,000 people. In 2020, it reported a 98% placement rate for dogs and 93% for cats. Arlington County
The Animal Welfare League of Arlington County runs the shelter under contract. It serves 237,000 people. In 2019, it reported a 93% placement rate for dogs, 93% for cats, and 93% for rabbits and other animals. Virginia statistics for all reporting agencies are available here.
Bedford County
The Bedford County Animal Shelter serves the 79,000 people. In 2019, it reported a 97% placement rate for dogs, 91% for cats, and 100% for other animals. Virginia statistics for all reporting agencies are available here.
charlottesville-Albemarle
The Charlottesville SPCA provides sheltering services for the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County. It serves 118,000. It 2019, it reported a 98% placement rate for dogs, 93% for cats, and 88% for rabbits and other animal companions. Virginia statistics for all reporting agencies are available here.
COLONIAL HEIGHTS
The Colonial Heights Animal Control & Pound Facility serves the 18,000 people of Colonial Heights. In 2020, it reported a 97% placement rate for dogs, 96% for cats, and placed six out of the eight other animal companions it took in.  Virginia statistics for all reporting agencies are available here.
Emporia
The Emporia Animal Shelter serves 5,500 people. In 2019, it reported a 96% placement rate for dogs and 94% for cats. It does not provide a safety net for rabbits and other animals. Virginia statistics for all reporting agencies are available here.
​Fluvanna County
The Fluvanna SPCA runs the animal shelter in Fluvanna County. It serves 26,000 people In 2020, it reported a 95% placement rate for dogs and 95% for cats. It did not take in rabbits or other companion animals.  Virginia statistics for all reporting agencies are available here.
James City County
The Heritage Humane Society runs the animal shelter in ​James City, Williamsburg, and York County (District One). It serves 103,000 people. KING GEORGE COUNTY
The King George County Animal Control and Pound Facility  serves the 25,000 people of the county. In 2019, it reported a 93% placement rate for cats and 93% for dogs. It did not take in rabbits or other companion animals. Virginia statistics for all reporting agencies are available here.
Loudoun County
The Loudoun County Animal Shelter serves the 398,000 people of the county. In 2019, it reported a 92% placement rate for cats, 91% for dogs, and 95% for other animals. Virginia statistics for all reporting agencies are available here.
LOUISA COUNTY
The Louisa County Animal Shelter serves the 34,000 people of the county. In 2020, it reported a 95% placement rate for cats, 96% for dogs, and 100% for other animals. Virginia statistics for all reporting agencies are available here.
Lynchburg
The Lynchburg Humane Society runs the shelter under contract. It serves 84,000 people. In 2020, it reported a 97% placement rate for dogs and 90% for cats. The New Kent County animal control shelter serves 19,500 people. In 2019, it reported a 98% placement rate for cats, 99% for dogs, and 100% for rabbits or other companion animals. Virginia statistics for all reporting agencies are available here.
