Carson City Animal Services is run by the Nevada Humane Society under contract. It serves 54,000 people. In 2016, it reported a live release rate of 94% for cats and 95% for dogs. It does not report or does not take in rabbits or other companion animals. For more information, click here.
Washoe County and the cities of Reno and Sparks are served by two shelters: strays go to Washoe County Regional Animal Services and animals surrendered by their families go to the Nevada Humane Society under contract. They share a building and jointly serve 435,000 people. In 2016, the Nevada Humane Society reported a live release rate of 96% for dogs and 92% for cats.
